The Evolution of HR Tech: A Comparative Analysis with Marketing Tech

Technology is pivotal in enhancing operational efficiency and driving growth in today's dynamic business landscape.  However, during the early stages of creating a new category come challenges for leaders trying to select long-term partnerships in a landscape of new providers with evolving products.  We will compare the HR Tech Space with the Marketing Tech space to explore where the HR Tech is heading.  

 

Marketing Tech has witnessed remarkable growth, revolutionizing how organizations use marketing.   The Martech2010_martech_landscape_sis landscape in August 2011 (Infographic: The 2016 Marketing Technology Landscape) shows 150 companies operating in the Martech space with no categorization.   

These companies were the pathfinders of their time, forging an explosion in the market that was likely unthinkable even for these players in this field.  As competing products started appearing, new tools were developed and driven by organizations seeking a new competitive advantage. 

By 2017, 61.3% of the 2010 martech landscape has been consolidated.  

On May 2, the landscape grew to 11,038 and was split into six categories. Advertising & Promotion, Content & Experience, Social & Relationships, Commerce & Sales and Data Management. This represents a 7,000% growth in the space over the last 12 years. 

If we break down the March Tech growth into early adoption, development, consolidation, and maturity, the market, for the most part, is in maturity.

The Rise of HR Tech

We've not found many organizations tracking the market in the form of Martech, but GreenField analyzed the market in their blog on September 6, 2022, THE RISE OF HR-TECH.

Just as marketers use data analytics to understand consumer behavior and tailor campaigns accordingly, HR professionals leverage people analytics to gain insights into employee engagement, performance drivers, and retention factors.

Looking at the trajectory of HR Tech, drawing parallels with Marketing Tech, it seems like the HR Tech industry is starting to move out of the early phases and growth spurt.  We predict a period of growth as new players try to enter the market, followed by some consolidation in the form of mergers and acquisitions.
