Welcome to the July 2024 Predictive Index Newsletter, where we will share some simple tips and tricks to help you utilize your Predictive Index tools to improve a wide range of individual and team development skills, including trust, collaboration, decision-making, and engagement. This month, we're going to look at the Artisan Reference Profile.

The Artisan Profile 

The Predictive Index is a Talent Optimization platform for organizations that puts people at their business's heart. An Artisan is meticulous, deliberate, and precise, excelling in managing detailed tasks and consistently seeing them through to completion. They thrive in collaborative environments but also work quietly and diligently on their own. While they don't seek the spotlight, they appreciate recognition for their efforts.

Working with a Predictive Index Artisan

Often, people approach working with others in the same way they prefer to be approached themselves. However, this one-size-fits-all method can backfire. Individuals have different preferences for how they like to work, which may not always align with your natural style. Even beyond individual needs, teams require different collaboration approaches. You wouldn’t work with a sales team the same way you’d collaborate with a team of developers.

When working with Artisans, keep in mind that they are thoughtful, careful, responsive, and reserved. They’re typically less effective in environments lacking structure and respect and seek direction. Consider the following suggestions when working with Artisans:

• Recognize them for their contributions.
• Clearly define responsibilities and authority.
• Provide a stable working environment.
• Allow them time to think through decisions.
• Let them work on more technical projects.
• Provide thorough training in all policies, standards, and systems.

By implementing these strategies, we're able to work better together. 

Artisans in a team

Artisans bring a calming and stable presence to any team. Known for their understanding, straightforwardness, and deliberate approach, they thrive in and foster a culture of precision. While teams are often formed by default rather than by design, adopting a strategic, data-driven approach to team building can significantly enhance an organization's success.

Artisans fall into the Process and Precision quadrant in the Predictive Index Team Discovery tool. This tool provides insight into team alignment with strategy.  

Artisans as a Leader 

Artisan leaders are dedicated team players who lead by developing well-researched, repeatable systems and providing detailed guidelines for their teams. They are supportive managers focused on helping others achieve high-quality results through precision and consistency. Their leadership strengths include emphasizing team welfare, anticipating problems early, accepting new ideas, and ensuring tasks are done correctly. However, they might appear overly task-focused, avoid conflict, struggle under time pressure, and find ambiguity challenging.
