  • Multitasker, able to juggle priorities
  • May be seen as too cautious and not strategic enough

  • May be too optimistic or overly trusting

  • May become frustrated in stagnant enviroments

Working with a Predictive Index Altrurist

Altruists naturally connect with a wide range of people. They are not only motivated to collaborate effectively with others but also find fulfillment in supporting everyone from clients and colleagues to managers and direct reports.

Altruists excel when they have the chance to learn and engage with diverse individuals, soaking up knowledge about their role and the business. They favor work that minimizes repetition and appreciate knowing that their efforts are respected and valued.

Maximize the potential of Altruists by providing support and assistance from the team and beyond. Connect them with subject matter experts and advisors, even outside their immediate responsibilities, so they can regularly engage with and learn from new people.

When interacting with this profile, consider some of the following suggestions:

  • Give them guidelines; Altruists like clear, specific definitions of the
    job, responsibilities and relationships.
  • Mix it up; Altruists like variety in their work.
  • Let them help and collaborate; they like being part of a team.

By implementing these strategies, we're able to work better together.

Altruists in a team

Altruists are adaptable, so their quadrant placement differs from person to person.  They can fall into any of the four quadrants in the PI Team Discovery tool. This indicates that, depending on the intensity of their behavioral traits, they will influence a team's dynamics in unique ways.

Altruists as a Leader

Altruists derive their sense of fulfillment from being supportive. But how do they lead their teams to success?

As leaders, Altruists are proactive in uniting the team to get work done according to established standards and policies, and they ensure tasks are completed on time. They may be hesitant to delegate due to concerns about tasks being executed correctly. Altruists are also respectful of authority and considerate of others.

Here’s a look at their strengths and potential challenges in management:

Strengths in Leadership

  • Proactive
  • Collaborative
  • Organized
  • Focused on others’ development

Challenges in Leadership

  • May find delegating difficult
  • Struggles with deviating from established processes
  • Slower decision-making when team impact is involved

Effective leadership goes beyond understanding your own style; it’s just as important to consider the individuals you manage and the dynamics of their Team Type. This enables you to adapt your leadership strategies to fit the unique needs of your team, making the most of your strengths as an Altruist.

For example, if you're an Altruist leading an Exploring Team, you may find yourself positioned in a quadrant opposite to theirs, as shown in the image. This can lead to differing values, but don’t worry—different personalities don’t guarantee conflict. Recognizing these differences is key to successfully managing diverse perspectives.
